The Lord’s Acre [501 (c) (3)] was started in the winter of 2008 by a group of people who wanted to grow food for the needy of Fairview. The name “The Lord’s Acre” honors the practice of Fairview residents during the Depression who planted an extra acre to share with the needy.
Our mission is to act as a community hub, bringing volunteers together to grow organic food for those in need, as well as providing education and guidance for community gardening.
Since Spring, 2009,we have delivered over 12 tons of organic food to Food for Fairview and neighboring communities, as well as providing education and guidance for community gardening.
At the beginning, we have gardened on the limited land that was lent to us. Now the opportunity exists for us to purchase 3 acres of land where we have been gardening. Additionally, when we purchase the 3 acres, it will be met with a matching donation, so we will own a total of 6 acres!
The area will be preserved by an Agricultural Easement to ensure that it will continue to be used for farming purposes.
This will give us the opportunity to feed more people by increasing our garden size, adding an orchard, creating community garden plots, and expanding our education and consulting work. The garden area could become a center for community involvement serving all of Fairview, not just the needy.
Please join us in acquiring the land and expanding our service to the Fairview and surrounding communities.
